Game design

Game design is the art of applying design and aesthetics to create a game for entertainment or educational, exercise, or experimental purposes. Increasingly, elements and principles are also applied to other interactions, in the form of gamification. It is a large field, drawing from the fields of computer science/programming, creative writing, and graphic design. Game designers take the creative lead in imagining and bringing to life video game worlds. Gaming and digital experiences are booming industries around the world.

So how do you get a job in game design? You can study game design at the university level. There are no specific course entry requirements for this niche degree. While many universities would like to see maths and computing on your list of qualifications, they’re not essential to help with the coding and programming aspects of a course. Other subjects like physics, IT, media studies, and design technology will be useful. The Youtube video below details some basics of game design. As a game developer, you’ll use a variety of software and computer programming languages for different purposes. Software like Unity has features for game artists and developers. Other popular software choices include Unreal, Photoshop, Maya, 3D Studio Max, and Sketchup 3D. Once you have mastered your craft, you could end get a job in game design at Nintendo. Valve Corporation. Rockstar Games. Electronic Arts. Activision Blizzard, Sony Computer Entertainment, Ubisoft or Sega Games Co., etc.

The Playstation 5 has expanded the possibilities of what can be put into a game. The future of games will continue to blur the lines between life-like imagery and interactivity. Ray tracing is developing fast. Dirt 5 promoted the idea of tailoring games to how we want to experience them, with various graphics versus- performance modes.
